Katy Tur Reacts to Trump PAC Fundraising Email During Putin Meeting

MSNBC anchor Katy Tur recently shared her surprise on air regarding a fundraising email sent out by a pro-Trump PAC. What caught her attention? The timing – it coincided with President Trump's high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Fundraising Email Raises Eyebrows

The timing of the email, sent by the Trump National Committee JFC, struck Tur as particularly unusual. Just moments after Trump greeted Putin with a red-carpet welcome in Alaska, the fundraising email landed in inboxes. Tur described the move as "crazy," highlighting the increasing trend of intertwining political actions with campaign fundraising.

During her show, Tur displayed the email for viewers, reading a portion aloud: "'Today I’m meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska. It’s a little chilly. This meeting is very high-stakes for the world. The Democrats would love nothing more than for me to fail. No one in the world knows how to make deals like me. Tonight at midnight, my very critical fundraising deadline hits, and the radical left is watching our numbers, this night of all nights, to see if we miss.'"

She then pointed out the call to action: "'And then it’s like, ‘Give $10,’ she said. 'You know, ‘Stand with Trump, give $10.’”

Is This the New Normal in Political Fundraising?

The Trump National Committee JFC, which launched last March, collaborates with the Republican National Committee and other PACs, including Never Surrender, Inc., and Working for Ohio, to raise funds. The Daily Beast has reached out to the committee for comment.

Tur sought insights from MSNBC foreign policy editor Ravi Agrawal, asking, "How crazy is it to see this fundraising email linked to this very important meeting he’s having with an autocrat to stop killing people in Ukraine?"

Agrawal responded, "I’m kind of stunned. I mean, I should know better, but it’s not presidential. It’s not right to be fundraising off of these images right now." He further suggested that such actions might send the wrong message, even to Trump's supporters, arguing that the President needs sound advice and experienced advisors more than money in such a crucial moment.

Following a three-hour discussion with Putin, Trump stated that "we really made some great progress today." However, details remained scarce, and no ceasefire agreement appeared to be reached. "We haven’t quite got there, but we’ve got some headway," Trump conceded, adding, "There’s no deal until there’s a deal."
