Bill Burr Doesn't Hold Back
Comedian Bill Burr is known for his sharp wit and unapologetic takes, and he recently unleashed both barrels on conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. The source of the friction? Shapiro labeling Burr as "woke." The comedian didn't take kindly to the accusation, and let Shapiro know exactly how he felt during a recent interview.
The feud seems to have started months ago when Shapiro attended one of Burr's shows in Florida. Shapiro reportedly wasn't impressed, calling it "one of the worst shows I have ever seen in my life" and accusing Burr of "going woke."
Burr's Fiery Response
In a recent interview with Vulture, Burr addressed Shapiro's comments head-on. He didn't mince words, accusing Shapiro of not even understanding the meaning of the word "woke." Burr argued that Shapiro's definition is a misinterpretation borrowed from Black people, and that Shapiro is intentionally divisive for financial gain.
"He doesn’t even know what that word means," Burr stated. "His definition of woke is white liberals’ definition of woke, and they didn’t even know what it was; they just took the word from Black people. That’s the worst thing about our people—not only do we take from other cultures, we don’t even take the time to understand the definition."
Burr continued, accusing Shapiro of intentionally stirring up controversy to profit from division: "He went there to be annoyed so he can then have something to talk about and then he can make money off dividing his own country. Those people, it’s treasonous what they do.” Ouch!

Calling Out "Idiots" and "Racists"
Burr didn't stop there. He labeled Shapiro an "idiot" and accused him of trying to bring him "into his fold" before suddenly turning on him. He also addressed the online backlash he and his wife have received, attributing it to racism and cowardice.
"They send pictures of monkeys to me and my wife," Burr said. "They’re f---ing horrible people. And they’re cowards, and they never say it to your face." He also criticized the proliferation of platforms that provide "softball interviews" for those espousing racist or antisemitic views.
Burr's Broader Perspective
Beyond the Shapiro feud, Burr touched on the fact that he believes his comedy is often deliberately misunderstood by both sides of the political spectrum. He also criticized both Fox News and CNN, calling them "a f---ing disease." He sees his role as a comedian to challenge everyone, regardless of their political affiliation.
It's clear that Bill Burr isn't afraid to speak his mind, even if it means ruffling feathers. His recent comments about Ben Shapiro are just the latest example of his willingness to challenge the status quo and call out what he sees as hypocrisy.
