Bannon "Not Buying" the Narrative Surrounding Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect's Messages

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon has cast doubt on the authenticity of text messages allegedly sent by the suspect in the Charlie Kirk shooting. Bannon, speaking on his War Room podcast, stated that he is "not buying the script" being presented to the public.

The controversy centers around messages the FBI claims were sent by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson to his roommate after Robinson allegedly shot and killed 31-year-old MAGA activist Charlie Kirk. These messages, widely circulated, reportedly reveal Robinson's growing resentment towards Kirk's rhetoric, stating he had "had enough" of Kirk's hatred. They also detailed his plans to retrieve the rifle used in the tragic shooting. The messages were viewed by many as offering insight into a potential motive.

However, Bannon is unconvinced. “I’m particularly not buying those text messages," Bannon told his audience. "It just seems too stilted, too much like a script—actually, like a bad script. So we gotta get to the bottom of it.” He implied a need to investigate potential connections between the suspect and groups like Antifa, as well as referencing a previous incident involving someone named Butler.

Bannon further questioned the alleged suspect's priorities immediately following the shooting. He found it implausible that Robinson's primary concern would be a misplaced rifle, particularly his grandfather's rifle.

“You just murdered the most important young person in the conservative movement, you shot him down like a dog, and you’re telling me you’re texting, ‘Dad’s going to be very upset I lost grandpa’s rifle.‘ Are you kidding me? You expect me to believe that?” Bannon exclaimed, expressing his deep skepticism.

He added, "How did the guy have time to write a sonnet? How did he worry about ‘Dad’s really going to be upset about grandpa’s rifle‘? Dude, I think your father may be upset that you shot a man in cold blood in front of the world," solidifying his stance that he is “absolutely not buying this.”

Calls for Further Investigation

Beyond the text messages, Bannon has also called for an investigation into Utah's Republican governor, Spencer Cox, suggesting he is "part of the problem" that led to the Charlie Kirk shooting. “He needs to be investigated. His administration needs to be investigated… He’s not a truthful narrative. He’s part of the problem that needs to be investigated,” Bannon stated, emphasizing the need for a “mass investigation” and questioning when the FBI would interview the governor.

Bannon previously described Kirk as a "casualty of war," echoing sentiments from other figures in the MAGA sphere who have framed the shooting as part of a larger conflict.
