Looks like Pope Leo XIV hasn't lost his sense of humor, or his Chicago baseball loyalties! The pontiff, a well-known Chicago White Sox fanatic, recently delivered a playful jab at a Chicago Cubs fan who heckled him outside the Vatican on Wednesday.

According to reports, the fan shouted “Go Cubs!” at Pope Leo. The Pope, without missing a beat, responded in Spanish, shouting back: “Han perdido.” For those of us who don't speak Spanish, that translates to: "They lost!"

Ouch! It seems Pope Leo is keeping up with the MLB, even from the Vatican. The Cubs, unfortunately, were eliminated from the MLB postseason after losing to the Milwaukee Brewers. So, the Pope's comeback was not only witty but also factually accurate. This playful exchange highlights the Pope's down-to-earth personality and enduring passion for his favorite baseball team. It's always fun to see a public figure show their lighter side!

It's no secret that Pope Leo is a dedicated White Sox fan. He even attended a World Series game back in 2005, proudly sporting his White Sox gear. The White Sox won that year, so maybe his presence is good luck! But, some sources incorrectly claimed he was a Cubs fan after his election. The Cubs even tried to capitalize on this with a message on the Wrigley Field Marquee.

However, Pope Leo's brother was quick to set the record straight: Leo has "always a Sox fan."

Growing up in Dolton, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Pope Leo was immersed in the city's vibrant sports culture. His childhood home has even become a tourist attraction for fans. The Pope's love for the White Sox is a testament to his roots and unwavering loyalty.

While the White Sox season wasn't exactly a home run, having the Pope as a fan is definitely a win. His recent exchange with the Cubs fan is a reminder that even the highest-ranking figures can enjoy a little friendly rivalry. Maybe next season will bring better luck for the White Sox – and perhaps another opportunity for Pope Leo to playfully troll some Cubs fans!
