Eric Trump's Tribute to Charlie Kirk: A Book Plug Too Far?

In recent news, Eric Trump's appearance on Fox News Sunday to honor the late Charlie Kirk has sparked some discussion. While paying tribute to Kirk, who tragically passed away at the young age of 31, Trump also found a way to promote his upcoming memoir, titled Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation. Let's dive into what unfolded.

During the interview with Maria Bartiromo, Trump described Kirk as "a great friend and an amazing person," stating that the situation felt like "a hit on our country," "our movement," "Christianity," "religion," and "freedom." He suggested the incident might be a significant misstep by those responsible. Authorities are currently investigating the case, with 22-year-old Tyler Robinson identified as the suspect. Initial reports suggest Robinson likely acted alone.

However, the conversation took an interesting turn when Trump transitioned from honoring Kirk to promoting his memoir. He noted that his book, Under Siege, was released recently, coinciding with Kirk’s passing. Trump stated this event "would have been another chapter in this book," further adding, "There’s nothing that emphasizes Under Siege more than what they did to Charlie.” He suggested that Kirk's death was an attempt to "eliminate a powerful voice," similar to perceived attempts against himself, his father, and his family.

Shortly after his television appearance, Eric Trump shared an Amazon link on X (formerly Twitter), directly promoting his book. The book, which is scheduled for release in October and features a foreword by former President Donald Trump, retails for $29.

According to the Amazon description, Under Siege offers an "unfiltered look at the highs and lows of life in the Trump world," including accounts of "near assassination attempts." It also promises insights into taking over a "multibillion-dollar empire" and stories from the campaign trail and The Celebrity Apprentice boardroom. Many people are discussing whether this was an appropriate time and place for a book promotion, considering the circumstances surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death.

This isn't the first time Eric Trump has mentioned his book in connection with Kirk’s passing. Earlier, he announced his intention to donate a portion of the book’s proceeds to Turning Point USA, an organization founded by Kirk that promotes conservative values among young people. "Like all of you, I have been deeply impacted by Charlie’s life," Trump wrote on X. "His story is not over. This movement is not over, and there is still so much more to be done."
