Trump, 79, Takes a Seat After Complaining About Standing During Press Conference

During a recent press conference, President Donald Trump, age 79, took a seat mid-event after expressing his discomfort with standing for an extended period. The press conference, held in the Oval Office, focused on announcing new initiatives to expand IVF access. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other officials were also in attendance.

It seems the length of a previous press conference, held the day before with FBI Director Kash Patel, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, was on President Trump's mind. He mentioned having to stand for about an hour and a half during that event. According to reports, the previous press conference lasted about an hour.

“Yesterday I did this and I stood for about an hour and a half as people spoke,” Trump stated. "This time I’m sitting right there," he declared, pointing to his chair at the Resolute desk, "and I’m gonna watch you.”

The incident has sparked further discussion about the president's health, particularly given his age. This comes after recent reports and observations regarding his physical condition, including what some have referred to as swollen ankles.

The president continued, stating that standing for that length of time was exhausting. Turning to RFK Jr., he jokingly asked, “Bobby, should I stand or sit?” Kennedy gestured toward the chair, seemingly encouraging the president to take a seat.

After introducing Dr. Mehmet Oz, who is now overseeing the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the president made his way back to his desk and sat down, leaving the other attendees standing. He did stand again later in the event to give closing remarks.

Concerns about the President's health have been ongoing. He recently underwent a “follow-up evaluation” at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. His physician, Sean P. Barbabella, released a memo stating that the president "remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance." The memo also claimed that Trump’s “cardiac age” was approximately 14 years younger than his actual age.

In July, it was revealed that President Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition common in older adults where blood pools in the legs due to damaged veins. He has also been seen with a persistent purple bruise on his hand, which the White House attributes to vigorous handshaking and the use of aspirin for cardiovascular prevention.

Despite these observations, the White House has consistently defended President Trump's health, with a spokesman stating that he possesses "tremendous health" and the "vitality, mental acuity, and energy levels that most young people could not fathom having.”
